Top 5 Bars in Manchester: The Best Tipple in the City

With our selection of top 5 bars in Manchester, we’ve tried to go for the best, both geographically, and in terms of what each has to offer. So, there is a wine jukebox near Albert Square, which is a loveably scuzzy pub located on Oxford Road, new Scandi-stylish in the Northern Quarter and an exclusive champagne bar near Deansgate are all in the mix.

Épernay

If you will walk into this warmly-lit space one floor up; that is full of dark wood and equipped with black leather chairs, you’ll find here an amazing champagne heaven. There are around 16 different varieties by the glass, along with a menu of excellent cocktails, nibbles and even afternoon tea. Apart from these, Épernay has a balcony; which is best for when the weather plays nice.

Sandbar

If you will just off Oxford Road, then you will get to enjoy in this well-loved bar; that might be a quite rough around the edges, but the drinks are up to scratch, with an incredible range of ales on tap and having a great whisky selection, too. Sandbar even boasts a wonderful jukebox and three indoor areas, as well as the outdoor seating and a small courtyard beer garden.

Salut wines

With 42 wines serving over glass and a daily changing selection of bottles in its enormous wine preservation machines, Salut is one of the best bars throughout the city to explore new vintages. It has a lovely, wide-windowed feel and an amazing menu of tapas-style plates.

Big Hands

With Big Hands’ slightly tatty as well as dark interior, this is a famous Manchester institution, which is popular with well-known musicians attending gigs near the academies. Here, you can enjoy a good range of European bottled beers or a daytime coffee and a sarnie on the eclectic seating, with the rocking tunes from the jukebox rolling exclusively through the room.

Common

Recently refurbished, Common has now stood up as one of the more grown-up bars based on the Northern Quarter block, with fully retractable front windows, ash tables and stripped-back aesthetics. There’s a unique menu of excellent small plates and main meals along with coffee, craft beers, cocktails and wine.
